Invite Wellness, Education, and Culture Into Your Life With the Easiest Aquarium.

The pursuit of improving ourselves is never ending. No matter how many books we read, classes we take, retreats we attend, or smart devices we buy, there is always another path to enlightenment.

Most of our higher level goals in life can probably be boiled down into three categories.

Life Goals:

  1. Pursue Wellness to be healthier physically and mentally

  2. Pursue Education to be well rounded

  3. Pursue Culture to be fulfilled

The pursuit of these goals is not only overwhelming, but it can seem insurmountable, never-ending and time-consuming.

My problem is I find it difficult to devote time to self-improvement. I do prioritize it, but even at the top of the list, my well-being is in constant competition with other top-level priorities.

So what am I to do?

Instead of devoting precious time, I found a way to devote my space to my well-being. And in doing so, passively pursue wellness, education, and culture simultaneously.

Better Wellness Through Aquariums

I recently posted an article on biophilic design and how aquariums play a major factor in reducing stress and increasing mental and physical health by bringing nature inside.

Aquariums as biophilic design are perfectly suited to do a whole lot more than that. Reducing stress and increasing mental and physical health are just the beginning.

I’ll post the list of benefits here again:

Benefits of Biophilic Design: Psychological

  • Promotes attention restoration

  • Appealing

  • Preferable

  • Positively impacts emotions & mood

  • Induce tranquility

  • Promotes relaxed and restored feelings

  • Lowers sense of fear & perceived fear

  • Lowers aggression

  • Lowers anxiety & stress

  • Lowers tension

  • Lowers depression & sadness

  • Increases overall happiness

  • Increases pleasure, familiarity, fascination, and compatibility

  • Improves mental engagement

  • Positively impacts cognitive performance

  • Increases productivity

  • Enhances creativity

  • Improves communication

  • Improves concentration

  • Decreases sleepiness

  • Decreases sick leave

  • Increases overall satisfaction

  • Increases self-esteem

  • Increases self-confidence

Benefits of Biophilic Design: Physiological

  • Lowers diastolic blood pressure

  • Lowers systolic blood pressure

  • Lowers heart rate

  • Increases standard deviation of the R-R intervals

  • Lowers frontalis muscle tension

  • Reduces skin conductance level

  • Increases overall energy

  • Increases overall perceived physical health

  • Lowers cortisol levels

  • Increases oxyhemoglobin

Each of these benefits was independently corroborated in at least 5 different research papers and found to be statistically significant. That means 5 different research groups, independently of each other, proved these benefits are real with at least 95% certainty. (Hung & Chang, 2021).

There are three decades of research that supports this theory of natural light, water, plants and ecosystems being restorative physically and mentally (Gillis & Gatersleben 2015).

Biophilic design is therefore best practiced with multi-sensory natural stimuli. Combining sound, touch, smell and visuals are particularly effective at restoring human beings (Alvarsson et. al. 2010).

This is what makes aquariums particularly adept at restoring you and improving your wellness.

  1. They are multisensory

  2. They bring nature inside

  3. They can be passive and require zero work from you.

How can an aquarium be zero work? That makes zero sense.

Aquariums are effortless if you let professionals do it for you. The right aquarium maintenance company will provide a high-touch, white glove service that removes you from any work, even feeding the fish can be done automatically. With full remote system monitoring and full service offerings, you should want for nothing and enjoy a stress free environment.

Literally the only thing you have to do is let the aquarium work its magic and reap the benefits of a restorative source of biophilic energy.

Better Educated Through Aquariums

If knowledge is power, then having well-rounded knowledge is a superpower.

Knowing a little something about everything will put you in an advantageous position in any aspect of your life.

Take Charlie Munger for example. He had training in mathematics, meteorology, and was a practicing lawyer, all before he became an investment banker in the early 1950s.

In multiple interviews, Mr. Munger swears by his cursory knowledge of many subjects as a well-read and practiced individual as the major contributor to his affinity for successful investments.

Aquariums provide a fund of knowledge in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, medicine, and more specifically thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, optics, world trade politics (import/export), engineering, limnology, and I could go on and on.

With an aquarium nearby, your curiosity will peak. Inspired by its mystery, you’ll start to search for questions you didn’t know to ask and before long you’ll be quite the expert.

Which leads to our final pursuit.

More Cultured Through Aquariums

I have found that people are always fascinated with aquariums, even if they don’t own one. I have never been to an event where someone didn't find what I had to say about my fish and coral to be unique and interesting.

Seriously, 99 out of 100 times, my answer to the question of “what do you do” is always followed up by a version of “Wow, that must be a fun job, what's the biggest aquarium you maintain?” or "What's the coolest fish you’ve seen? Or “ What's the most expensive fish you’ve sold?” or my favorite, “How did you get into that?”

The same will happen to you. In any room you walk into, anyone in that room will have a follow up question when you mention your aquarium, I guarantee it.

The reason is simple. Everyone has a relation to an aquarium.

  1. My dad had one growing up.

  2. I love the T.V. show “Tanked”.

  3. My grandmother took me to the public aquarium as a kid and that is a treasured memory.

  4. My family member has a tank and my kids love it.

  5. I love the big aquarium at the restaurant, department store, or spa I frequent.

Your aquarium is an instant talking point, conversation starter, and a way to not only relate to strangers, but also be interesting. They are just as curious about the mystery of the underwater world as you were when you bought your aquarium.

The Easiest Aquarium

As I alluded to earlier, what's the secret to the easiest aquarium?

Simple, have a professional handle it.

If you hire the right company, the process of having a passive tool for self improvement in your home or office is incredibly simple. After determining the aesthetic and vibe you want to add to your life, a custom aquarium can be designed, installed and maintained without you ever having to do anything but enjoy and bask in the benefits of its presence in your life.

Professionally, we have designed and installed systems where the client isn’t even required to feed dry or frozen foods. If you chose a company with white-glove, high-touch, concierge service, a quick text is the most difficult task you’ll perform during the entire life of your aquarium.

The Pursuit of a Better You

In the pursuit of a better you, most of our goals can be condensed into wellness, education, or culture; kind of a mind, body, spirit sort of thing.

There are a million ways to improve yourself and I’m sure you’ve heard of them all, but not many people have considered the natural effectiveness of the aquarium; now you’re one step ahead.

Aquariums are an easy path to better wellness, education, and culture. It sounds too good to be true, but the truth is a lot of hard work goes into aquariums, it just doesn’t have to be hard work you have to worry about.

As always, if you have any questions about how aquariums can lead to better wellness, education, or culture, or if you are wondering what makes an aquarium maintenance company the “right” one, do not hesitate to contact us.
